FINALLY!
Don't get me wrong. I love the DIRECTV DVRs. They get sooooo much right. But there's been a missing feature since day one: Autotune. This is where you can set a timer that actually changes the channel for you.
Autotune was originally help DIRECTV receivers interact with VCRs. The receiver would tune to the right channel and the VCR could stay on channel 3 (or AV1) since it couldn't tune by itself. With the coming of DVRs, DIRECTV thought the feature was useless and didn't include it.
The problem is, there are other uses for Autotune.
Sometimes you want the DVR to be on a channel when you wake up so it will have a full buffer. Sometimes you want to make sure you tune to a live sports event on time.
Solid Signal Forums member Throckmorton has come up with an almost-perfect solution using any Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC. This desktop gadget will create an autotune for you any time, any day of the week.
If you're a commercial customer, you probably run receivers instead of DVRs but if you do have a DVR in the mix this will give you that function for FREE.
Well done, Throckmorton! Click here to go to the Tips and Resources Forum to get this Gadget.
