Unless you're lucky enough to live in the southern US,
you're about to get some snow... if you already haven't of course. Snow itself isn't a real danger to broadcast signals, although a good strong snowstorm will cut signal strength by quite a bit. The real danger is snow buildup on the dish itself. See, a dish is sort of shaped like a bowl, it makes it more efficient but it gives snow a place to accumulate and as anyone who has lived through a northern winter knows, snow can accumulate quickly.
The answer is a dish heater like our Hotshot line of dish heaters
. These are basically heating elements that attach to the dish and go on automatically when needed. They go off automatically too, so you can save energy. The heating element sticks on to either the front or back of the reflector (your choice) and just melts the snow so it doesn't become a problem. It's a simple, elegant solution.
We've produced a video showing the installation process... you can see how easy it is!
