STREAMING SATURDAY: Netflix Original Movies Highlight April

A handful of Netflix original films highlight the April titles set to debut on this streaming.

When I usually write about Netflix, I’m singing the praises of its dynamic and ground-breaking original series. Some of you who read this weekly installment might already know that I think Stranger Things is the best thing on streaming TV. You might also know that I’m a huge fan of The OABloodline, and Orange is the New Black. As I look at Netflix’s April offerings, however, I’m intrigued by a few Netflix original movies set to debut during the fourth month of the year. While I’ll always love binge-watching my favorite Netflix series, I’m intrigued to get back to the movie form. It’s a good thing the streaming giant has a handful of original films from which to choose.

Small Crimes
The first of Netflix’s original April films that caught my attention was Small Crimes. Starring Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (best known for portraying Jamie Lanister on Game of Thrones), Small Crimes is the story of Joe Denton, a disgraced former cop who’s trying to put his life back together after a six-year prison stint for attempted murder. Needless to say, Denton is haunted by some other very bad people from his past, including what appears to be a crooked cop played Gary Cole (Lumbergh from Office Space). At an hour and a half, watching Small Crimes will likely entertain me without dominating my entire weekend before leaving me itching for season two to come out. Too bad I have to wait until April 28 to see it!

Sandy Wexler
Mrs. Buckler is a fan of comedies, particularly Adam Sandler comedies, and it looks like she’s in luck with Netflix’s Sandy Wexler. Judging by the trailer, this movie features Sandler playing another one of his eccentric misfits with a peculiar speech pattern. This time, it’s Sandy Wexler, a small time Los Angeles talent manager in the 1990s. Wexler’s life changes when he meets the young but tremendously talented singer Courtney, played by Jennifer Hudson. Just looking at the trailer, Sandy Wexler appears to be a star-studded affair with names such as Chris Rock, Conan O’Brien, Henry Winkler, and many more making an appearance. It’s slated for an April 14 release on Netflix.

Enjoy Your April Choices!
Small Crimes and Sandy Wexler are just two of many Netflix original movies this month. There are many more than appear interesting, and I’m sure that Mrs. Buckler and I will give each of them at least one viewing. There also are some old favorites that might be due for another see, such as A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) and Gremlins (1984). At least once a month, I get nostalgic for my teenage years, which spanned that totally awesome decade known as the ’80s. With so many choices, I can’t think of a better way to spend another streaming Saturday around the house.
