STREAMING SATURDAY: What’s New at Hulu for December 2017

Do you use Hulu to stream your favorite shows and more? Here are three new Hulu updates and more for streamers like you!

When it comes to covering streaming services, it’s been said that I neglect Hulu. That’s because perennial grump Stuart Sweet has me convinced that their app is one of the worst ever created. To address my lack of Hulu coverage, here are three recent developments from the green streaming service. Better controls, new shows, and company headquarters are this week’s highlights. There’s also a new list of movies to stream this month. (Hulu’s live TV offerings are too numerous to mention here.) Check out Hulu’s latest news and developments in this week’s Streaming Saturday.

Hulu to Get Alexa Voice Control
Hulu’s services will feature voice control on Amazon Echo and Fire TV devices. Hulu updated its Fire TV apps to support Alexa voice commands on Thursday. Through Fire TV and Echo, users can ask to pause, rewind, and watch programs, for example. This could be a fun, new way to enjoy your favorite TV shows and channels.

Here are some examples of the voice commands Hulu users will be able to use Alexa:

  • “Alexa. Go to ESPN, CBS, etc.”
  • “Alexa. Watch Difficult People, Future Man, etc.”

Hulu Strikes Streaming Deal with Disney
Hulu and Disney announced a streaming agreement that adds many hit Disney-owned ABC TV shows to the streaming service. The deal, announced Thursday, includes the newest episodes and back full back catalogs of the following TV series:

  • Revenge: available December 7, 2017
  • The Catch
  • Shadowhunters
  • Marvel’s Agent Carter
  • Captain America
  • Blossom
  • Bunheads: available December 14, 2017
  • Cougar Town: available 2018
  • Perception: available 2018

Hulu Opens Headquarters in San Antonio
Hulu officially opened its Viewer Experience Headquarters in San Antonio, TX this week. This venture will create 500 new jobs at the streaming company’s new location. About 300 of these positions will be filled by the end of this year. The additional 200 jobs are expected to be available sometime in 2018.

Workers at Hulu’s HQ will improve customers’ experiences with the brand. Hulu hasn’t announced what these jobs will be. That hasn’t stopped some from guessing that the HQ will be a phone and customer support center. They base this upon Hulu’s plans to offer 24/7 customer support. The new HQ sounds like it will be good news for Hulu customers and the city of San Antonio.
