Does anyonne know what is happening with my antenna

All of a sudden Im not getting any reception. My antenna is kind of old but it always worked before.

To me it sounds like a loose or broken wire. If you're comfortable inspecting it on the roof, make sure the connections are tight. Also, check the line in the attic to see if there is a break.

If it's a really old antenna it will have flat wire coming from it, and somewhere down the line you will need a transformer that changes it to the round coaxial cable. That might be disconnected or broken.

My attic is wide open and I'm going to try and install my antenna there myself, i think I'll just leave enough wire up there to get to the roof if I have to move it but i'm close to the towers anyway.

Will a booster make up for a iffy singnal because the antenna is in the attic?

If your roof isn't metal, an attic mount should be fine. You might get a slightly large antenna, instead of a booster. Boosters work once the antenna picks up the signal, but it's always better to start at/with the antenna if you need more gain.

I think it would be better with an antenna outside. I think they look cool anyway.

Because you are "close to the towers", most any antenna will probably work just fine in your attic (unless you have a metal roof as VOS noted). As to using a signal amplifier, it is going to amplify whatever it gets in to it. So if you have a poor signal into the amp, you will have an amplified poor signal out of it (in other words, it will amplify both the noise and the signal). Where an amp helps is if you have long feedline distance from your antenna to your receiver, boosting the (good) signal at the antenna end of that line will give you a better signal at the tv end of that line. Or, if you are going to send the signal to several tv locations with a splitter, boosting before the splitter can help offset the loss you will experience from using a splitter.

I finally installed the antenna in my attic, I bought the biggest one I could get and it's great. I can get my local channels and the locals from a nearby market. I did end up using an amp because I split the signal between 4 sets. Thanks for the help!
