DIRECTV NOW is Returns After Nationwide Outage
DIRECTV NOW is back online after experiencing its first major outage in months. The streaming service was down for about three hours on Monday (April 23, 2018). Some beta testers reported that their beta apps were still up at the time of the outage. At about 9:53 PM (EST), DIRECTV NOW acknowledged the outage on its Twitter account. The streaming service provider promised to restore service. It announced the situation resolved on Twitter at about 11:50 PM, April 23.
DIRECTV NOW to Use AT&T Login Screen
Just before the outage, DIRECTV NOW announced two big changes. The first was that it switched to the AT&T login screen. According to the updated login help page, all accounts created on or after March 12, 2018 use an AT&T Access ID. Older accounts still have DIRECTV NOW account IDs. This could indicate that all DIRECTV NOW accounts have merged into AT&T Access accounts.
Note: The merged DIRECTV NOW/AT&T Access accounts does not mean that DIRECTV customers can use DIRECTV now. It also means that DIRECTV NOW customers can’t use AT&T apps. The reason for this is simple: while these accounts might features the same login page, customers still only get access to the programming they pay for.
DIRECTV NOW Gets New Local TV Affiliates
The addition of new local TV channels was DIRECTV NOW’s second big pre-blackout change. Some of the channels added are Raycom Media stations, while others are part of the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Such a diverse selection of content providers speaks to AT&T’s ability to secure a variety of local affiliates. Here are a few of the channels that have been confirmed by users:
- CBS 6 (Albany, NY)
- Wave 3 NBC (Louisville, KY)
- CBS 2 (Salt Lake City, UT)
Solid Signal will keep you post as news of additional affiliates comes in.
