Meet Your Signal Pro: Noah McDonnell

Solid Signal’s customers benefit from diverse professional skills our customer service reps bring with them. These diverse personalities also help make Solid Signal a great place to work. Take Noah McDonnell for example. He followed his family from Colorado to Michigan. After Noah got here, he followed his brother Ryan’s lead by taking a job in Solid Signal’s customer service department. Since starting here on March 15, 2019, Noah has carved out a niche for himself at the company and in life.

A “Mountain Man” in Michigan

As a Colorado native, Noah found that there was a lot to love about his home state. He enjoyed a variety of outdoor activities like rock climbing, walking around the city, and camping in the mountains. That all changed one day. He explained, “Our father found a government job in Michigan after he retired from active duty military after 21 years. We all came by car and I have 5 brothers, so it took two round trips to get everyone here.”

Moving to Michigan was Noah’s first time in the state. Needless to say, it was a bit of a culture shock when he arrived. “I wasn’t used to seeing so many trees, flat land, and potholes in the roads!” he said. “I love the Michigan scenery but I still miss the Rocky Mountains.” Michigan’s winters, which Noah says are more intense than winter in Colorado, also took some getting used to.

Let’s learn a little more about this unique individual who’s a gamer, reader, and important part of the Solid Signal team:

Q: How did you end up working at Solid Signal?

A: “My brother Ryan told me about this job. He said I could try to be a customer service rep or work in the warehouse. I didn’t think Solid Signal had its own warehouse attached to it. (I thought it was just going to be a big office space with a separate location for the warehouse.) If I would have known that the building was like half and half, I probably would have picked warehouse because I’m used to moving my body and doing hands-on work. I’m glad I decided to give something new a try.”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “Helping people. We have some older customers who struggle to use their computers. I help them place their orders by putting in the correct information and talking them through the process. I probably do this more than 100 times a week because these are the folks who tend to call the customer service department. Most young people just find what they want on our website then order it right off their phones. I’m happy to help anyone who calls us, and many of these people are very thankful for it. Sure, I sometimes get people who just hang up once we’re done, but I’m happy to help them too. It’s all about customer service!”

Q: Would you like to share anything about your home life? Family? Pets? Etc.

A: “This year, we got two kittens from are friend who just had a cat that gave birth. He was looking for a new home. At first, I didn’t know we were getting kittens because I grew up without pets so I never expected to hear that so I thought they were joking with me. But now, I have two kittens Ace and Ghost and they love to run around the house and cuddle with everyone.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I’m a gamer. Most of the time, I like to play Xbox after a long day of work or just go home and watch some anime. I only started watching anime because my Xbox friends and brothers got me into it. Now, I can’t get enough of it. My top shows would be “Fairy Tail,” “Black Clover,” and “One Piece.” I love to play open world games because some of them are so beautiful to play in and just look at the scenery.”

Q: Where is the most exotic place you’ve visited?

A: “I haven’t really been to an exotic place before; but, back when I lived in Colorado, we use to go up to the Rocky Mountains. We went to the Cave of the Winds in the Pikes Peak region and took a tour of the cave, which is very dark. They give you lanterns that you carry and once you get to the end, they cut all the lights off. It feels like you’re going to fall down into a pit of death!”
