HANDS-ON REVIEW: KING Omni antennas

TOPICS:

It’s the ultimate in convenience: an antenna that you don’t ever have to aim. If you’re out in your RV and want to settle in for a night of entertainment, maybe aiming an antenna doesn’t seem like your idea of fun. Even though KING’s Jack antennas aim very quickly and easily, that may not be right for you. That’s when you want to look at KING’s Omnidirectional antennas.

The OmniPro

KING’s OmniPro antenna is perfect for RVers. It comes in white or black and features a nice solid base that should mean never worrying about it even if you’re going above the speed limit. If this isn’t your first antenna, don’t worry. KING makes a great mounting plate specifically designed to cover the holes from a previous installation.

Power Injector

One thing I really like about the KING RV antennas is the power injector. Instead of a standalone power injector that takes up an outlet and leaves you with visible wires, the power injector is designed to fit into any standard size junction box. There is a switch which not only turns on the built-in amplifier but, in the “off” position, allows you to connect to a cable TV source if one is available. It’s all due to the electronics behind the plate.

There’s also a connection point for a second TV if you have one. The power connects with a hardwire connection to your 12 volt RV power.

OmniPro Home antenna

If you like what the OmniPro brings to your RV, you’ll want one for home as well. KING sells the exact same antenna with a different mounting system as the OmniPro Home. Like the RV version, it’s available in white or black, and features a more traditional power injector.

Installation of both the RV and home versions is incredibly easy, with just one hole in the RV. The Home version comes with a really solid J mount and with the mounting arm you see in the picture above. This allows it to be mounted on nearly any vertical surface, even an existing satellite dish mount while the dish is being used. This is the kind of quality you can expect from KING.

Performance

Of course, the most important thing about any antenna is how well it performs. The OmniPro antennas are no slouch, outperforming any other omni I’ve tested. Our test facility is right on the edge of where you would expect to get reception, yet the OmniPro really does deliver.

KING-Antennas

Signal-to-Noise ratio, the most important thing about an antenna that picks up digital signals, is really good throughout the spectrum, and the gain chart shows relatively good performance compared to reference data, consistent from one end to the other. I feel comfortable recommending this antenna for anyone who is going to stay within 45 miles of the broadcast towers, and there’s a lot of RVing that can be done in that radius

A couple of videos to watch

I did two videos for this antenna, one on KING in general and one specific to this line. Check them out:
