Did you miss a recording? Try 72-hour rewind on DIRECTV!!

DIRECTV receivers hardly ever miss recordings. However, sometimes the power is out, or sometimes someone needs to watch something else and you’re already recording 7 things. Hey, it happens. No matter how much recording capacity you have, there’s going to be that one time.

On the other hand, how many times have you heard about a show the day after it aired and wished you could see it? You have more options than ever thanks to streaming, that’s true. But if you pay for DIRECTV, do you also want to pay for Hulu, Peacock, and Paramount+ just to get access to last night’s shows? If you’re like most folks, being double charged isn’t your cup of tea.

Good news for you

The good news is that most content is available through DIRECTV’s “72-Hour Rewind” feature. All you have to do is press the SELECT button on the name of the channel, as long as it has one of those little plus signs on it. Take a look at the graphic at the top of this article to see what I mean. You’ll be taken to the on-demand page for the channel and there, you’ll find almost everything that’s aired in the last 72 hours. With broadcast networks, it’s generally limited to prime time, and with other networks you don’t get a lot of reruns or infomercials, but that’s still ok because you’re getting the content you want.

This feature has been around for years. I don’t know why more peole don’t talk about it. Then again, that’s why people read The Solid Signal Blog!

Great option that doesn’t cost anything

This is a great option for people who want to catch up on the latest watercooler-ready program. Some folks don’t have a streaming device. Those who do might not want to subscribe to every single app. It also keeps you from switching inputs on your TV which is a real benefit to some people.

The same function is available if you tune in to a show in the middle. Have you ever gotten a message telling you to press REWIND to go to the beginning of a show? This is available on many DIRECTV channels. It seems like magic but it’s just using your internet connection to stream that on-demand content as it’s airing.

72-hour rewind is available to all DIRECTV customers with Genie DVRs that are internet connected, and if you’re not internet connected then you should definitely consider it because it’s really worthwhile. Genie DVRs have built in wired and wireless internet so it’s super easy to connect.
