Problems with your DIRECTV H25 receiver? We can help!

Does this receiver look familiar to you?

DIRECTV’s H25 receiver has been out there going strong for — believe it or not — eleven years now. The majority of them were made before 2013 and have been put the refurbishment cycle over and over since then. This little receiver was built to be a workhorse and it shows. The durable front panel buttons replaced the sexy but sensitive touch panel of the H24, and this receiver uses an external power supply that keeps the innards cool. It’s turned out to be a winning combination, as millions of them are still in service.

When bad things happen to good receivers

Still, everything has its day. Maybe you’re getting weird messages on the screen. Maybe things don’t seem as fast as they used to be. Or, maybe the remote control isn’t quite working right. These can all be symptoms of a receiver that needs to be replaced. Luckily, you have a friend in the business. Read on to find out if your receiver needs to be replaced, and what you can do about it.

Home users

There are still some home users who are holding tight to the H25s. Genie systems have been the norm since 2012, but the marvelous thing about DIRECTV is that you can customize. Plenty of people use their H25 as a spare room receiver or in an RV.

Receiver slowing down?

If you think your receiver isn’t as fast as it once was, it’s not your imagination. These devices don’t really get slower over time, but the software that runs them gets more advanced and they can’t keep up. One thing you can try is pressing the red button on the side of the receiver. This reboots the receiver and will clear out some of the logs that might be slowing things down.

Buttons or remote not working?

If the front panel buttons don’t work anymore, we can get you a replacement! Don’t try to call DIRECTV… they won’t be able to do it, but we can. If the remote doesn’t work, you’re in luck because we have the best price on genuine DIRECTV replacement remotes for H25.

Weird codes or on-screen messages?

If you’re seeing on-screen error codes, you could check this comprehensive list to see what the error means. Or, you could get connected with a real DIRECTV tech by calling us at 888-233-7563. Sometime’s it’s as easy as sending a signal to your receiver, and sometimes more needs to be done. Let us help you figure out what to do next!

Business/Commercial users

Business and commercial users are now the primary customers for the H25 since Genie systems are not allowed on most commercial accounts. Commercial H25 receivers look exactly the same as the ones for home but the software for them is somewhat different. That means they can suffer from the same problems as residential receivers, and then some. Take a look at the list above, and then see if any of these problems below sound familiar.

Problems with networking?

H25 receivers have built-in Ethernet ports. However, it’s been almost a decade since DIRECTV stopped supporting Ethernet in most cases. If you’re still connecting via Ethernet, it’s probably giving you trouble. Use this guide to learn how to network via the coax cable.

Receiver turning off after 4 hours?

This is a problem that’s surprisingly common. It happens when a residential receiver is refurbished and put into commercial use. There is a setting for Energy Saver mode on residential receivers that isn’t there on commercial receivers. If you’re having this problem, we can help.

Screen saver showing up randomly?

This is another problem that occasionally pops up on commercial H25 receivers that run all day. If you’re having this problem, pressing the red reset button usually fixes it. If it doesn’t, call us and we can take more steps from our end.
