Netflix He-Man Reboot Rocks this World and Eternia!

“I have the power!” If you’re of a certain age, you can feel the reverb in that booming catchphrase.

Gen Xers, Netflix is catapulting us back into the golden age of our youths. I’m talking about the original Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Part one of this He-Man reboot premiers on July 23, 2021, and I predict that the show will be a banger. That’s a bold prediction from someone who hasn’t seen it yet, but I’ve watched the trailer. All I can say is “Damn!” If you grew up in the 1980s, you’ll say the same thing. Check it out:

“Netflix Knows EXACTLY Who’ll be Watching This!”

That’s what I said to Stuart Sweet after I saw the trailer. I mean, could it be any more ’80s? Case in point, the backing soundtrack. No, we didn’t see He-Man and friends prancing around to the latest Ariana Grande hit. No! The action was backed by Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero,” which was a standout on the Footloose (1984) soundtrack. Here are eight more reasons why I’m sure this show is aimed at Gen X viewers:

  1. Masters of the Universe is an iconic ’80s toy line and animated series.
  2. The news series is a sequel to 1983’s He-Man and the Masters of the Universe.
  3. It’s produced by Kevin Smith who’s known for his extreme ’80s love.
  4. It stars 1980s icon Mark Hamill, aka “Luke Sywalker,” as the voice of Skeletor.
  5. Henry Rollins, former singer of ’80s punk band Black Flag, voices Tri-Klops.
  6. Cree Summer Francks (A Different World, Inspector Gadget) voices Priestess.
  7. Alan Oppenheimer, who voiced several roles in the 1983 Masters of the Universe, returns as Moss-Man.
  8. The trailer shows a full line of Masters of the Universe heroes and villains, including fringe characters such as Clawful and Fisto.

Are you thinking what I’m thinking? Yeah, this is going to be an ’80s fest, and that’s GREAT!

What’s it About?

Masters of the Universe Revelation - Official Poster.jpg

Really? This is the quintessential ’80s reboot of our dreams. Why in all of Eternia would you quibble over plot points? Wait a minute. Did Stuart put you up to this? I’ll bet he did. He’s always nagging me about all the small things while he completely misses the big picture. I swear, if the circus comes to town, he’ll miss the elephants walking by because he’ll be too busy counting peanuts.

Okay, rant over. Now time to answer your question.

So, I did some research and found a basic overview of the Masters of the Universe: Revelation plot. It’s not much, but I’ll give you what I have. The story takes place after the final battle between He-Man and Skeletor. The Revelation reboot tells the story of Teela, a former captain of the guard of Castle Grayskull. After the destruction of Eternia, she seeks to find the missing Sword of Power. Apparently, she needs to do this to prevent the end of the universe. So, there ya go!

Something to Think About, Gen Xers…

This He-Man reboot might be the best dose of ’80s love we’ll get this year. Stranger Things has always been my nostalgia standby, but that’s hit a bit of a snag. Current events have caused season four to be pushed ahead to 2022. That means the Masters of the Universe: Revelation series might very well be all we have to relive our childhoods via Netflix. I’ll take it!
