Streamers, I Have “Tunnel Vision”

I absolutely HATE to say this, but… Stuart Sweet was right. I DO have tunnel vision when it comes to streaming!

He said this to me recently while I was yapping about Netflix’s Hit and Run is. I dismissed his comment as just more of his usual nonsense, but he was right. (Damn! I said it again.) I was SO focused on this Netflix original series that I missed everything else available this month. Now that we’re halfway through August, I’m noticing the other cool shows that are available on this streaming service. So, while I silently nurse my grudge toward Stuart “Broken Clock” Sweet, here are three Netflix originals I look forward to streaming:

1. Top Secret UFO Projects: Declassified

Okay, this has been on Netflix since August 3 and I’m just now hearing about it? Well, I guess I was too focused on Hit and Run to notice anything else. But now that I’m aware of this show, I know I’m going to watch it. Why? Because I’m a sucker for UFO shows. I swear, the producers of these things see me coming from a mile away. I really should be ashamed of myself for this guilty pleasure. Why am I so down on myself over UFO shows? Two reasons and both are interconnected:

  1. I know that shows like this will never reveal the truth about extraterrestrial life. (Whatever that truth is.)
  2. Even though I know this, I’m going to watch it anyway.

So, if you’re the type who swallows this hype hook, line, and sinker, check out the Top Secret UFO Projects: Declassified trailer:

2. The Swarm

This Netflix original movie is another one that slipped past me. It premiered on the same say as Hit and Run – August 6. Swarm is also a French-language film. (French films were my first introduction to the magic of foreign films and subtitles.) Lastly, it’s a horror movie, and I love horror movies… and the premise of this one terrifies me.

Okay. This movie is about a group of people operating a locust farm. As in, they’re farming these insects as food. That alone is horrifying enough… to me, of course. (Yes, I know insects are a tremendous source of protein. They’re also insects.) Judging by this slightly gruesome trailer, the struggling locust farm takes a turn when the protagonist discovers the bugs have a taste for blood. Check it out, BUT ONLY if you aren’t easily scared or offended by such things:

3. UNTOLD: Deal with the Devil

This one popped on August 17. When I first saw this title, I thought it was another horror movie. Well, in some ways it is… but the horror is real. UNTOLD tells the story of former female professional boxer, Christy Martin. As a boxing fan, I remember watching many of her fights. What I didn’t know is that she literally had to fight for her life against her husband-trainer, James V. Martin.

This documentary tells the story of James Martin’s vicious attack on his then-wife. The ordeal nearly killed Christy but fortunately, she survived. (She has a fighter’s heart, after all.) Are you a fan of true crime? If so, check out the UNTOLD: Deal with the Devil trailer:

August is Packed with Netflix Originals

…But YOU already knew this. I’m the only one who didn’t see it, but I’m going to fix that. You see, I don’t want Stuart to get one over on me again. That’s why I’ve listed all the original series, movies, and documentaries coming to Netflix in September. By seeing what’s available ahead of time, I’m less likely to hyper-focus on ONE show. Oh, and I’m also listing September’s titles as a favor to you, my faithful readers, of course!
