What can you do if your apartment complex has bad cable?

This one hits close to home. Not for me, but for someone who recently told me about how frustrated he is. He’s really familiar with the great service you can get from DIRECTV, but he doesn’t have a good view of the sky and his apartment complex is pre-wired for really crummy cable TV. The internet is slow, the channel selection is poor, and it’s just a bad deal all around.

The problem is inside the house

There’s no doubt in my mind that the culprit is actually the cables that are in the walls. A lot of apartments are wired for cable when they’re built, or if they’re older than 30 years they were wired when cable TV came to the neighborhood. Those cables sit in the walls where bugs can chomp on them, kids can pull on them, and time can wear them down. A lot of times the cable that’s in there just isn’t suited for today’s internet needs. It was originally designed to carry 20-30 channels of cable TV, not 200 channels of HD plus internet for everyone.

I want to talk to your manager

Obviously the first thing to do is talk to the apartment management. They may not care, or they may think that fixing the problem is difficult. You may not be able to make them care — that’s up to you — but the good news is that fixing the problem is easier and less expensive than they thought.

There are excellent programs out there from AT&T and DIRECTV for apartment complexes. One dish goes on the roof and from there on the building is wired so that everyone can get great DIRECTV service. There are special programs for renters and even programs where the equipment stays in the apartment so the next tenant can be up and running the same day they move in.

And of course new cable is run. That’s time-consuming and obviously requires that a technician have access to the apartment, but most folks really won’t mind because they’ll be getting great value for their entertainment dollar for just a little inconvenience.

The best thing is how much it doesn’t cost

From the point of view of the apartment management, there are some great programs out there. These programs can almost completely eliminate the extra costs involved in rewiring everything. Our DIRECTV representatives can show them how having access to better TV and internet will allow them to raise rents and make more money. That’s going to get their attention.

Obviously there’s not going to be much you can do without the complex’s permission. There is one thing you can do. You can have them call Signal Connect at 888-233-7563 and talk to our experts. We’ll do our best to make sure that you get the television service you deserve! We’re here for you during East Coast business hours. If it’s after hours, fill out the form below and we’ll get back to you. Usually it takes about one business day.

Don’t suffer with bad cable and internet any more. It’s time to step up to the great service you can get from AT&T and DIRECTV.
