What can you do when you’ve outgrown “Personal Hotspot” mode?

Most cell phones today have a neat little feature. They can be used as tiny little cellular routers if you need them to be. In other words, they stay connected to cellular data, and they pump out a Wi-Fi signal that your other devices can connect to. This is a great option if you need it in an emergency. Let’s say, for example, that you’re cruising through 200 miles of desert highway heading toward a trade show and someone in the office needs you to make a change to a document you’ve created on your work computer. Just pull over, make the change, and use the cellular connection to send it. In minutes you’re on your way again.

But, as great as “Personal Hotspot” mode is for emergencies, it gets old kind of quickly if you’re trying to use it every day. The Wi-Fi range isn’t very good, meaning you might not be able to put your phone where it needs to be for the best signal. It’s possible to connect more than one device, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Having 2 or more devices connected makes the phone almost unusable and the internet speed can really slow to a crawl. There’s also a bit of a security issue since you’re essentially opening up network access to your phone.

Luckily there’s a better way.

Not just a hotspot

This is the GOTSPOT. It’s a portable wireless router that lets you connect your devices more quickly, without any impact to your phone. It provides a secure wireless network with more range than your phone and it’s built for speed and reliability.

Most hotspots only work with one device. This one lets you use up to 8. You also get a real display that tells you what’s going on, making it easier to put the GOTSPOT where it needs to be for the best signal. It’s easy to configure and once it’s set up, the next time you use it just turn it on and watch it work!

Of course any device like this needs a data plan. GOTSPOT uses different networks depending on your choice. You can choose an option that gives great speed in cities, or one optimized for more rural areas. The most important thing is that for one low price you get a lot of data. Most cell data plans will limit the amount of data you can use in personal hotspot mode. GOTSPOT has limits too, but they’re generally about five times more generous than the ones from the cell company. And best of all, they’re fairly priced so you know you’re getting a good value.
