It talks about how some people are paying far too much for inferior internet service, and how two people living in the same neighborhoods can be paying two vastly different rates for the same internet service. And, according to the article, it’s perfectly legal!
Yep, it’s true.
The key here is that internet providers aren’t required to change people’s plan without their permission, even if it benefits them. In most cases they aren’t even allowed to. So, if you signed up in 2011 and you’re paying $90 for 15 megabit service, they’re within their rights to keep collecting that money and providing that service. Your next door neighbor who signed up last year might be paying $40 for 300 megabit service, but your internet company isn’t required to tell you that. That’s just how the law works.
Don’t get suckered.
It’s up to you. Unfortunately, the law isn’t really on your side. As long as the internet company is providing the service they say they are, there’s nothing to be done on their end.
