Will an old satellite dish on an RV still work?

TOPICS:

“I just bought an RV with a satellite dish installed. Can I get it to work?” We get this question a lot, so we’re happy to share the answer with RV owners interested in satellite TV.

Quick answer: yes, probably

Many RVs, campers, and motorhomes come equipped with satellite dishes already attached. Some motorhome manufacturers install a satellite dish and sometimes even a receiver when the company builds these vehicles. Other RV dealerships might have dishes attached to their vehicles as an added bonus for buyers. And if you’re buying used RVs shouldn’t be surprised if your new-to-you camper or motorhome has a dish and/or receiver attached. But can you get this satellite dish in your RV to work? Of course you can… and Solid Signal is here to tell you how.

Easy Satellite Dish Check

The quickest and easiest way to check the satellite dish on your new or new-to-you RV is to turn it on. If power is going to the dish, you will hear the dish moving around as it tries to locate the satellite signal in the sky. But even after the dish locates the signal, you won’t be able to watch satellite TV unless two things are present in the equation:

  1. You have a working satellite receiver connected to the dish.
  2. You have a working satellite TV subscription associated with that dish and receiver.

As I said before, some RV manufacturers and dealers have vehicles that include a satellite dish and receiver. If this is the case with your vehicle, then you’re in luck. Instead of purchasing a satellite-dish-and-receiver combo, then having it installed in your RV, you can skip straight to the third step – activating your DIRECTV or DISH account. When it comes to do this, there’s an easy way, then there’s the hard way.

Activating Your Satellite TV Service

You would think that calling DIRECTV or DISH would be the easy way to activate your account, right? While you might think so, but it doesn’t always work out so well for some RV owners. It’s not uncommon for some callers to be put on hold for long periods of time, or transferred back and forth between several departments. In other words, it might take a long time for you to talk to the person you need to about your account activation. It’s much easier to call us here at Solid Signal and let us get your satellite TV account activated quickly.

Signal Connect is a DIRECTV and DISH authorized dealer. Everyone there is experienced in working with representatives at DIRECTV and DISH, which means they know the right people and the right extensions they need to get your account activated quickly and easily as possible. This saves you all that time waiting to talk to someone on the phone. Once your satellite TV account is activated, the satellite dish that came with your RV, camper, or motorhome will pull in satellite signal from the sky.
