2020: The Year in Signal

Our yearly recap this year has one simple rule: We all know the big stories that defined 2020. This isn’t that kind of blog. So there will be no mention of them here. Let’s talk about the other stories for a little while.

Every year, on the last week of the year, we recap the stories that really made headlines here at The Solid Signal Blog. This year we bring in one more category: the year at Solid Signal.

The big change

If you’re a long-time shopper at SolidSignal.com, you proably realize that since about 2011, our web site has looked something like this:

That site was written by hand, originally in the early 2000s. It was pretty sharp looking in its day, but let’s be honest, it was time for a change. Mobile shoppers account for a bigger and bigger slice of the pie, and this site didn’t really suit them. Our mobile site was a little better for people who shopped on their phones:

But let’s be honest it wasn’t everything you could hope for. Luckily, that changed in 2020, with the release of the all new SolidSignal.com.

No screencaps, that would be cheating

Our new web site is very much improved, inside and out. It’s now completely compliant with all the modern web standards. It works great on tablets, on phones, on laptops, and even on 80″ monitors (we checked.)

But if you want to see it, you’ll have to go to SolidSignal.com and look for yourself. While you’re there you might want to buy something, I’m just saying.

We took the time to clean everything up and add even more functions to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for. Not only that, our new site does a better job of helping you find what you need when you’re searching on Google (or Bing or other search engines, I suppose.)

An immense labor of love

This web site, and the accompanying back end, are the result of almost 18 months of planning, testing, and implementation, from dozens of people inside and outside Signal Group. Now that it has launched, it’s being tended to by a team of bug hunters who are still working through the inevitable issues that come up at launch.

Keep visiting us week after week and you’ll see improvements, plus even more parts added all the time!

Strong infrastructure

One of the best parts of 2020 is that we were able to stay open 100% of the time and keep our team safe. Our best-in-class IT department handled the transition from office life to work-from-home in record time and with no effect on our customers.

In fact it’s been the best year ever for Solid Signal, and we have our customers to thank for it. You’re the reason we’re here, and bringing you the things you need is our passion.

It’s been a big year for us, and we’re coming out at the end even stronger and more ready to help you live your best digital life!
