AT&T to Webcast Talk with John Stephens on September 9

The following press release is attributable to AT&T:

AT&T to Webcast Talk with John Stephens at Bank of America Securities Conference on September 9

AT&T Inc.* (NYSE:T) will webcast a presentation by John Stephens, AT&T Inc. senior executive vice president and chief financial officer, at the Bank of America Securities 2020 Media, Communications & Entertainment Conference, September 9, 2020. The presentation will be held virtually and is scheduled to begin at 9:50 a.m. ET.

The webcast will be available live and for replay at AT&T Investor Relations. Viewers should join the webcast a few minutes before the planned start time in case the conference schedule changes.

Usually I don’t mention these webcasts because they’re dreadfully boring affairs for anyone except stockholders. The days when you could really get good information about upcoming products or services at investor events are long gone, I’m afraid. It’s enough to make me pine for the old days when you could count on Bruce Churchill to overpronounce “Panamericana” 15 times in a webcast.

This time might be different

Lately, there’s been a lot of buzz about AT&T divesting DIRECTV from its portfolio. Could it be true? Hey, I don’t know. I do know that as an AT&T Preferred Dealer it would be pretty dumb for me to speculate. You can read a lot of rumors if you want. Remember, they’re just rumors. Anyone who knows anything is under non-disclosure agreement.

More importantly, anything that does happen will take a long time. I’m reminded that it took 2-3 years of backroom discussions before AT&T announced its purchase of DIRECTV. It took another 18 or so months for the deal to close and a lot of DIRECTV’s operations are still being folded into AT&T even now. So it’s nothing you should worry about today.

But, it should be interesting to see if Mr. Stephens is asked the question. He’s been candid in the past about AT&T’s strategies. Who knows, he just might give a hint or two at the webcast tomorrow.

If you’re not interested in listening live, or don’t plan on being awake at 9:50am Eastern time, you can go back and listen to the whole thing at the link they share above. Who knows, it might be worth your time.
