AT&T Watch TV Unofficial Launch

Although AT&T hasn’t made a formal announcement, it appears that its AT&T Watch TV streaming service launched today. The website is live, so we’re calling that a launch unless we hear otherwise. AT&T Watch TV is the company’s latest streaming service that gives viewers 30+ channels of live TV, and more than 15,000 titles of on-demand movies and shows. Anyone with a qualifying AT&T wireless plan, such AT&T Unlimited&More, can add the Watch TV service free. Those without a wireless plan pay only $15 a month for this streaming service.

AT&T Watch TV only offers one stream at a time, unlike DIRECTV NOW, which lets viewers have up to three streams. The streaming service also currently has no support for in-browser streaming or Roku support. Some industry insiders predict that this will change soon. Currently, AT&T Watch TV is supported on four streaming service devices:

  • iOS 10 or Higher
  • Android 5.0 or Higher
  • Apple TV 4th Generation or Higher
  • Fire TV & Fire TV Stick

Currently, AT&T Watch TV offers chat, Twitter support, or Facebook support. There are no phone or email support options listed, but that could change as the streaming service matures.

Free Premium Channels with AT&T Watch TV

If you get Watch TV through your AT&T Unlimited plan, you’re in for a major freebie. You get to pick one premium channel for free. The channels you get to choose from are Amazon Music, Cinemax, HBO, Showtime, or Starz. According to the Watch TV website, viewers can get free Amazon Music, Pandora Premium, and VRV. It’s unclear if this is included with AT&T Watch TV or if viewers will need a new AT&T Unlimited & More plan. Solid Signal will report on this and other Watch TV details when AT&T issues a press release.

Our Thoughts on AT&T Watch TV

Some might wonder why AT&T would release Watch TV in a market crowded with low-cost streaming services. We believe that Watch TV will actually be great for DIRECTV satellite TV subscribers. As AT&T continues to provide attractive options for budget-conscious subscribers, the communications giant can continue to position fashion DIRECTV satellite TV as its luxury service. This opens up for the possibility for even more innovation for those who are willing to pay for it. Solid Signal will continue to report upon any new details about Watch TV, DIRECTV NOW, and other streaming service providers. Stay tuned!
