FUN FRIDAY: I go meow

TOPICS:

If you read this column a lot, you’ll realize that one of the things that interests me in life is how people actually make money on YouTube. I’m sure that most people who try to make money fail, and you just don’t see them. What you see in YouTube’s well-curated feed is the few thousand out of all those millions who really are able to make a go of it. And of course, it’s hard to guess what will capture the public’s attention.

Of course the same is generally true of Instagram reels and Tiktoks, I shouldn’t limit this discussion to just YouTubes. But YouTube is where I personally prefer to consume my video, and that’s why I end up featuring them on Fun Friday articles. That and it’s easier to embed them in this particular platform than it is for other shortform videos.

Look away, away

Which brings me to YouTuber “The Kiffness.” Starting with some video of their cat, they autotune and compose around the cat’s basic vocalizations. The result is surprisingly good. I’m not going to say it’s up there with the best music ever, but honestly it’s on par with or better than most of what I hear today. Judge for yourself.

Look, obviously there’s some manipulation going on in the cat video. It’s not just autotune. It’s possible that the mouth is being animated too. But still it’s an interesting idea and if you have a cat, you might have thought about singing songs with it too. This person actually does it, and about 1.5 million people have watched the video. If you watch it, you’ll probably be singing along by the end of it… it’s pretty catchy.

That’s not the only song

There are quite a few more singing cat songs too, and you can watch them all in this “best of” complilation.
