Get the best of the blog in your inbox with Follow.it

The Solid Signal Blog just keeps getting better. Did you know you could get a quick digest of all the stories here in your inbox? While companies like substack seem to think this is a new thing, we’ve been doing it for almost a decade! In fact, we’ve just made it better.

The technology keeps improving…

When we first offered email subscriptions, we used Google’s feedburner service. This was high tech back then, but hey, things change. I’ll be honest, I didn’t give a lot of thought to email subscriptions until recently. It does seem like substack and other platforms really are bringing that sort of thing back to the forefront.

Feedburner was good for what it was, but over the years it became clear that Google wasn’t interested in modernizing it. They were more into their Google+ service, which was supposed to be a competitor for Facebook. (spoiler alert: it wasn’t.) But the service worked for us, and we kept with it for all these years.

The end of the line for feedburner

Google announced that their feedburner platform was moving to “legacy” status as of July 1, 2021. And true to their word, they did it. They claim that they’re cutting off email subscriptions at that point. I don’t know, I didn’t wait around. I searched for a better platform and it wasn’t hard to find.

Introducing follow.it

Follow.it is a free service that lets you aggregate all the sites you want to follow. It’s a digest which can come to your email or be read online. We’ve partnered with them to give you a better email experience, and an easier sign up.

And honest, it couldn’t be easier. If you’re already subscribed to the old feedburner-based service, you’ve already been migrated. There’s nothing more for you to do. If you want to start getting digests via e-mail, just scroll down to where it says “GET NEW POSTS VIA E-MAIL.” From there you can enter your email address and press one button to subscribe. An email verification link will be sent to you. With one click, you’ll be all set!

Why do we do this?

It’s just another way you can participate in the Solid Signal Blog community. If you’d rather get emails, we’re here for you. This is completely optional. There’s nothing to do, there’s nothing to buy. It’s a way for you to enjoy reading, nothing more.
