Meet Your Signal Pro: Stephanie Sepko

Solid Signal attracts people from a wide variety of backgrounds. Everyone who works here brings diverse professional experience and skills with them. from some other industry or professional backgrounds. All of their unique skills, talents, and personalities make up the vibrant fabric of Solid Signal. Take Stephanie Sepko, our customer service representative, for example. Prior to joining our team, she had a successful career as a Spanish teacher. This background serves her well when helping many of our customers. This is a big part of why she gets so much fulfillment from her job here at Solid Signal.

Conoce a la Professora…

… That’s Spanish for “meet the teacher.” Prior to joining our team, Stephanie taught pre-school through eighth-grade Spanish. Her students ranged in age from three to 13, which had her working at four different schools each week. After four years of this, a change in residence made her rethink her career. She explained, “I didn’t feel like I could give the job and students what they needed while managing the changes in my personal life.”

Stephanie took a job at a plumbing company but was laid off due to lack of work during the slow season. Now, she answers customer questions and processes orders as a member of Solid Signal’s customer service department. “Sure, I miss my students, but I can honestly say that I love my job!” she said. “It’s incredibly fulfilling and I feel challenged to want to do more and continue to grow.”

Class is in Session

The skills Stephanie developed as a Spanish teacher are put to good use at Solid Signal. She’s one of two people here who answers calls from Spanish-speaking customers. As anyone who’s talked with any of our customer service reps, these customers enjoy the friendly and helpful customer service they receive. “I started learning Spanish through a once-a-week class in elementary school and I loved it,” Stephanie said. “The language has been a part of my life ever since.”

Stephanie’s Spanish-language skills are just one of many interesting things about her:

Q: How did you end up working at Solid Signal?

A: “I found a listing for Solid Signal through Indeed and liked what I read about the company and what the position had to offer. In my interview with Mae Kouza, she told me about Mike Masura and said, ‘If you work with Mike you become his family.’ That was exactly the type of work environment I was hoping to find. The rest is history!”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “My coworkers and our customers. I also enjoy the fact that there are opportunities to learn new things. This job is far from boring, and I love that I feel like I am picking up new skills through what I do every day.”

Q: What has been your greatest accomplishment while working here?

A: “I’ve started training new hires and the feedback has been positive so far. I have a background in education, so I love that I get to use that. When I started working here, I really didn’t know anything about TV antennas or satellite equipment, so I feel great about the fact that I know enough now that I can help teach new members of our team.”

Q: Would you like to share anything about your home life?

A: “I just bought my first house last August with Bobby, my boyfriend of four years. We met in college over 10 years ago while we were both studying to be teachers. We have two dogs, Opie, the muttiest of mutts, and Roo, a husky, German Shephard mix. We also have two cats, Zoey, an orange tabby who runs the house, and Tom, a grey tuxedo who lives to watch birds out the window.”

Q: What do you like to do in your spare time?

A: “I love to read in my spare time. Dystopian fiction is my favorite genre, and I am obsessed with all things Harry Potter. I also love to garden and spend time outside whether it be camping, hiking, kayaking, or walking the dogs. I love food and trying new places. I also really enjoy practicing yoga.”

Q: Where is the most exotic place you’ve visited?

A: “Australia! I spent a month there for an international student volunteer program. During that time, we spent two weeks working at a wildlife park and another two weeks traveling on an adventure tour. I went scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef, bungee jumping, white water rafting, and rappelled down the side of a mountain. It was the experience of a lifetime! I would go back in a heartbeat and hope that anyone who has the chance to go there takes advantage of the opportunity!”

Q: If you could have dinner with one famous person who would it be?

A: “I would love to sit down with J.K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter novels). Aside from being an amazing writer, she is a pretty incredible human being and I would love the chance to pick her brain and learn more about her.”
