Netflix in December is 56% Originals!

As a streamer who LOVES original content, I couldn’t wait to dive into this!

Netflix is releasing the motherload of original content next month. Its December 2021 lineup has a whopping total of 77 originals. (That’s out of a total of 136 releases!) The December lineup features movies, series, and mini-series, and a variety of American and foreign content. With such a rich tapestry to choose from, I found it hard to narrow it down to my top three picks. In the end, I decided on the shows that I believe will have the biggest overall impact.

1. The Unforgiveable (December 10)

Have you ever watched a movie trailer and thought, “This film is going to win an Oscar?” That’s the feeling I get when I saw a preview for The Unforgiveable. It has all the hallmarks of a film that speaks of its place and time. This includes a powerful story, well-known actors, and an enduring message. I could spell it all out for you, but I’d rather you have your own raw impressions of this film. Check out The Unforgiveable trailer and tell me this film doesn’t have Oscar written all over it:

2. Don’t Look Up (December 24)

Admittedly, I find today’s so-called “funny movies” to be boring and predictable. I make exceptions for clever comedies, and Don’t Look Up might be one. Imagine being a scientist who discovers a huge comet hurtling toward earth. Now imagine trying to warn people of this danger but no one seems to care. I have a feeling that this film will offer an interesting look at how disconnected from reality we all are in 2021. Check out the Don’t Look Up trailer:

3. Cobra Kai – Season 4 (December 31)

December 31 is the night most of us stay up late to watch the ball drop. It’s also going to be the night when Mrs. Buckler and I will binge-watch this 80s revival series. I say this assuming Netflix will make the new season of Cobra Kai available later in the evening. I seriously hope the new series drops at noon. If it does, we’ll watch the whole thing before we catch the action in Times Square. If you’ve been impatiently waiting for this series, you should see the Cobra Kai trailer:

December 2021 on Netflix Looks Like This…

Think a lot of releases, and most of them are originals. Remember, there are 77 originals out of 136 releases, which is 57 percent. Since that’s more than half, I’ve decided to only list the originals. I’m not sure any of us, myself included, will be able to watch all 59 of Netflix’s curated shows this month. If you think you can pull it off, good luck. In the meantime, here’s the list of Netflix’s original December programming:
