Hey, streamers! It’s been a minute since I’ve mentioned Netflix, so here we go.
There was a time when I proudly proclaimed Netflix the “King of Original Content.” At the time, that statement was true but now, I’m not so sure. It’s not that Netflix is slipping, it’s just that the other streaming services have stepped up their originals games. Even so, the “big red streaming service” is still plugging away with a variety of original content. By the looks of things, we’re in for a wide variety of domestic and foreign programming. So, let’s take a look at my top three picks for May.
Jupiter’s Legacy (May 7, 2021)
Are you tired of superhero movies? Me neither. “Bring ’em on,” say fans of superhero movies. Apparently, Netflix listened because they brought us this original series. Jupiter’s Legacy is based on the comic book of the same name. The show focuses on the super-powered children of the world’s first superheroes. These mighty kids are challenged with saving the world while trying to live up to the reputations of their parents.

Oxygen (May 12, 2021)
There’s not much I can say about this one except that it’s French. In many ways, that’s enough because all the cool, artsy films are made in France. (It sure seemed that way when I was a kid.) Oxygen looks like it will continue this tradition. From what I can tell, this Netflix original sci-fi thriller is about a woman who wakes up in an oxygen chamber and the air is rapidly decreasing. I don’t want to spoil the surprise so I’ll just share the trailer:
Army of the Dead (May 21, 2021)
Zack Snyder is at it again only this time he’s over at Netflix. As its name implies, Army of the Dead is a zombie heist thriller. (Zombie heist thriller?) It stars pro wrestler Dave Bautista as a former special forces soldier called out of retirement. His mission: sneak into Las Vegas and recover millions of dollars in cash. And the entire city is overrun by intelligent zombies who are faster and stronger than the average human! If you’re not squeamish, check out the Army of the Dead trailer:

Okay. You have my three top picks for May. Everyone has different tastes so I’ve listed everything coming to Netflix in May. (At the time of this writing, of course.)
