Nontraditional Gifts for Dads and Grads

TOPICS:

You know, there are a lot of things in my house I thought I’d never use much. But, if this year has taught us anything, it’s the virtue of self-reliance. Thinking of new ways to use the technology that’s out there has kept me safe and sane these past few months. And that brings me to dads and grads, whom we’re honoring here at Solid Signal during the month of June.

Yes, it’s true that most graduations have been online, and they’ve already happened. And dad… well, he just might be sitting in the Barcalounger, watching Barnaby Jones on his antenna-equipped TV. Things are a little different this year, so I present to you some options for dads and grads that you might not have considered.

Noise-Cancelling Headphones

My older brother literally had something like this in his dorm room back in 1985. I made a joke about getting a pair so I wouldn’t have to listen to Dad barking orders at me. It didn’t go over well. Maybe these new and improved noise-cancelling headphones will. They feature 18.5 dB of ambient noise reduction at 200Hz to help filter out pesky noises. Grads will love them in the dorm rooms, just like my brother did. And dads? Well, maybe they want to filter out their annoying sons, too.

A Portable DVD Player?

Yes, really. It might not be a huge hit with grads who stream, but Dad will love it. It might give him the opportunity to pull out a few of those old DVDs out of the box and watch them in another room. Remember, some of Dad’s favorites aren’t available to stream. Take the collection of Fox’s Werewolf TV series from 1987-1988, for example. There’s a boxed set available that would make the perfect Father’s Day gift, along with this portable DVD player. Just saying!

And a Pillow Speaker

…A pillow speaker? What’s that, you ask? It’s something that dads and grads could use. How many times have you wanted to watch something on TV at night but didn’t because it would’ve woken up everyone in the house? This pillow speaker is the ideal solution that you’ve probably never heard of until now. Just plug its 1/8” headphone jack into any TV, radio, or media player. You can lay this pillow speaker next to you on the bed and listen to your show without waking up the whole house.
