SHORTEST ARTICLE EVER: Will we see more DIRECTV 4K channels this year?

Not likely.
Told you it would be short.

Seriously though, It’s already autumn and those intrepid observers who like to download satellite TV data are saying that there’s just nothing to report. No 4K channels being tested, no 4K channels have been announced in production. There just isn’t any.

It’s pretty much common knowledge that DIRECTV plans to add more of its own content in 4K, possibly in the form of pay-per-view or movies, sometime in the next 6 months. The plan is that all the 4K content we have now will move to the so-called “reverse band” meaning you’ll need to upgrade to this LNB on your dish if you don’t have it already. But what programs will be on it? That’s the real question.

Truth is as much as I love DIRECTV’s 4K implementation, and it’s only going to get better in the future, they can’t keep carrying the weight of providing all the 4K content there is on pay-TV. I know a lot of people were disappointed that NFL Sunday Ticket wasn’t going 4K this year, but it seems the stadiums themselves aren’t ready.

Oh well, maybe next year…
