We’ve partnered with Winegard for close to 20 years, and they have been one of our best vendor partners during all that time. But in all that time I don’t think I’ve really done a profile of the company, and I really should have.
Winegard company history
It all started with John Winegard wanting to watch Harry S. Truman’s speech in Chicago in 1946, but there wasn’t a Yagi antenna that could pull a signal from Chicago to Burlington… so he invented one. John was able to watch the speech and soon his friends and family wanted the same technology. This led to John designing the first antenna that could capture the signal of more than one broadcast channel. Before, you needed an antenna for every channel you wanted to watch. It also led to starting Winegard Company.
In 1977, the company branched out from just selling residential TV antennas, and they’ve been a leader in every market they’ve pursued. Today you might know them from their satellite products or from their TV antennas, but they are so much more
The special Winegard formula
One of the things that’s so rare about Winegard is that they are still the same company they were almost 70 years ago. So many brands from those days have been sold to overseas concerns, but Winegard’s still headquartered in Burlington, Iowa. They still make antennas the same way they always did. It shows in the quality of what they put out. And, for the last roughly 20 years, we’ve been proud to feature Winegard products at Solid Signal.
Winegard means quality
Many Winegard TV antennas from 50 years ago are still on roofs and still doing the job. That’s an amazing statistic and not something you can say about most technology companies.
