You’re reading The Solid Signal Blog. You know that it’s our mission to support SolidSignal.com. You also occasionally hear about Signal Connect, which is the full-service part of our company. Signal Connect helps people with satellite activations, cellular service, RV and marine satellite, satellite-based internet… pretty much anything that takes a little more than just clicking a button.
You sometimes hear me talk about Signal Group, and maybe you’re thinking, “who’s Signal Group?”
I get it. It’s confusing. But not as confusing as…
Signal Group is the corporate umbrella that contains Solid Signal, Signal Connect, The Solid Signal Blog, and other subsidiaries. It’s not separate from these other groups, it’s really just a “big picture” thing. For example, our Human Resources department is organized under Signal Group, and services all our divisions.
If it sounds confusing, I get ya. But at least founder Jerry Chapman was able to keep the word “Signal” in there to try to guide you a bit. For reasons I will never understand, Facebook’s corporate parent, which also includes Instagram and WhatsApp, is called Meta. Meta what, I’m not sure. But Meta something.
But ok, you can say, oh there are all these different apps with different names, so the corporate name doesn’t have to favor any of them. So what about Google then? Google’s name is on pretty much everything they use. Google.com is the search. Google Ads is the way people advertise. The Google Pixel is a phone and Google Maps gets you from point A to point B. Yeah, Gmail breaks that mold but what do you think the G stands for? And yet, Google’s corporate parent is called… Alphabet. Look folks, I got nothin.
And just to confuse you a bit, Apple’s corporate parent is called Apple. Because just when you think you are getting the logic of the thing, you have to change your thinking. That’s how it works.
