DIRECTV in your car? (2021-22 version)

I found this article while looking through The Solid Signal Blog the other day. It’s pretty well written, but it’s incredibly wrong at this point. It goes to show that things really do change in the space of five short years. The question is the same, though… how can you get DIRECTV in your car?

The modern solution

In the 2020s, you don’t need a big satellite dish on the roof. You don’t need some fancy streaming add-on connected to your home equipment. That stuff went out of style a while ago. And hey, folks, believe me I’d love to sell you an expensive satellite system for your car. But it’s not necessary. You just need an app. And best of all, it’s free.

Two choices, both good

Depending on how else you want to watch television, you have two excellent choices. And really, it’s up to you.

The DIRECTV App for satellite users

DIRECTV has been perfecting the mobile experience since even before there were smartphones. The free DIRECTV app for your phone and tablet gives you over 100 channels of live TV, lots of sports, and access to the entire on-demand library. It’s included with your DIRECTV subscription. Just download it and sign in with the same credentials you use at DIRECTV.com.

With the DIRECTV app your passengers can watch anything they want in the car. Of course you’ll need a reasonable-sized data plan on your phone. If you don’t have one, call the folks at Signal Connect at 888-233-7563. They’re AT&T Preferred Dealers and can help you with getting the data plan you need.

DIRECTV Stream

One of the things people often say about DIRECTV Satellite is, it doesn’t fit their lifestyle. There’s a 2-year commitment, and it requires you to install equipment. For some people, that’s a deal-breaker. For those folks, DIRECTV Stream is the answer.

DIRECTV Stream is exactly what it says. It’s DIRECTV, just the streaming part. For a lower price than you pay for satellite TV, you get all the great streaming you can get from the regular DIRECTV app. There’s a box you can connect to your home TV if you want, or run the app on your favorite streaming box. More importantly, watch in your car all you want for one low price. Yeah, just like the other app you do need a healthy data plan. But most folks don’t find that to be a problem today.

With DIRECTV Stream, everyone (except the driver of course) can watch in the car as much as they want, with no extra equipment ever needed. That’s what you’re talking about.
