DIRECTV Technical Support: Power Supplies

Signal Connect’s DIRECTV technical supports comes in many forms.  Sometimes, we share tips to remedy DIRECTV connection issues.  Other times, we educate you about satellite TV equipment.  This time, we take a closer look at DIRECTV power adapters.  There are a few of them out there, and we identify each and tell you which DIRECTV equipment it matches.  This is important information because you never know when you might need to replace your power supply.  Let’s take a closer look at the power adapters DIRECTV has to offer.

The DIRECTV EPS 10 Power Supply

Do all DIRECTV boxes use the same power supply?  Close, but it’s not quite to that point… yet.  Right now, most DIRECTV boxes use the same power adapter.  It’s the DIRECTV EPS10, which is the most common DIRECTV power adapter.  It’s used to deliver power to a wide variety of DIRECTV equipment, which includes:

  • Broadband DECA
  • C31 Genie Mini Client
  • C41 Genie Mini Client
  • C41W Wireless Genie Mini Client
  • C51 Genie Mini Client
  • C61 Genie Mini Client
  • C61K 4K Genie Client
  • C61W Wireless Genie Mini Client
  • H25 Receiver
  • Wireless Video Bridge
  • Gemini for Satellite

Note: It can’t power all of these devices at the same time.  You’d need a separate power supply for each.

DIRECTV EPS44 Power Adapter

While the EPS 10 seems to be the most common DIRECTV power supply, it’s not the only one.  The DIRECTV EPS44 is the power supply for most DIRECTV DVRs these days.  For example, this device is used to power the H44 Genie, HR44 Genie, and HR54 Genie.  It actually carries a bit more power than the popular EPS10 power adapter.

DIRECTV EPS17 Power Supply

The EPS17 power adapter has a very specific use.  It’s delivers power to the HS17 Genie 2.  If you don’t have this receiver, you don’t need the EPS17.

DIRECTV PI29Z Power Inserter

The PI29Z power inserter is not a power supply.  It’s a power inserter, as its name implies.  This means it puts power over a coax cable so it can be used by outdoor equipment or consumer premises equipment.  A power supply, on the other hand, is used to power a receiver.  As far as the PI29Z is concerned, it’s something you use to power your dish if you don’t want to power it using your DVR, or if you have an external multiswitch.  This device is fairly common in homes that have a DIRECTV satellite installation.  Today’s PI29Z replaces an older version with a black out shell.
