AT&T to release earnings today

TOPICS:

AT&T will release its earnings in its typical laid-back style today after 4:30pm Eastern. Unlike the heady days of DIRECTV, there won’t be a lot of fanfare, although there will be a webcast.

After several months of bashing from media outlets claiming “satellite TV is dead,” this is AT&T’s opportunity to show how strong the segment is. Although it’s not the strongest quarter of the year (that honor usually goes to the fall) the winter does tend to perform for DIRECTV.

It isn’t yet clear to what extent AT&T will separate out numbers for its three services: DIRECTV Satellite, U-Verse TV, and DIRECTV NOW. DISH now gives numbers for its Sling streaming service and if the rumors are to be believed, DIRECTV NOW will account for most of the growth in the pay-TV portfolio.

U-Verse TV, while still active in many markets, is not expected to show any growth and the only question here is how many of its shrinking customer base have transitioned to one of the company’s other pay-TV products.

The official press release from AT&T reads:

AT&T Inc.* (NYSE: T) announced today that the company’s first-quarter 2018 results will be released after the New York Stock Exchange closes on Wednesday, April 25, 2018. At 4:30 p.m. ET the same day, AT&T will host a conference call to discuss the results. The company’s earnings release, Investor Briefing and related materials will be available at AT&T Investor Relations.

A live webcast of the call will also be available at AT&T Investor Relations, and the webcast replay will be available until June 30, 2018.
