It’s a very special day for us here at Signal Group, LLC. It was twenty years ago that we started SolidSignal.com. Back then we were a one-person operation back then, operating out of a garage.
It started when company founder and visionary Jerry Chapman needed a multiswitch to distribute satellite TV to eight receivers. After hours of internet research and phone calls, he could not find a source for the part. While this might have discouraged other people, Jerry’s persistence paid off in many ways.
He posted about the multiswitch on an online electronics product forum. Many users directed him to a company with a surplus of these devices. Jerry ordered his multiswitch, but he did not stop there. He knew there would be others who wanted to get this device but did not know where to find it. This was the inspiration for the Signal Group and its many brands.
Jerry purchased as many of the multiswitches as he could. He then used his e-commerce experience to create a website to sell the devices. And, we were off and running.
The long road
We grew. And grew. And grew. In the last 20 years, we’ve been in four facilities, and we’ve recently doubled the amount of space in our Novi, Michigan corporate offices. Along the way we’ve become a bigger company, but stayed true to our roots. Customer service got us where we are now, and it’s what keeps us going.
We’ve won multiple awards from our vendors. We’ve added corporate affiliations. And, we’ve become the largest mobile/marine satellite activations company in the world. Our tech experts are recognized all over the planet. And, it’s all because of our customers.
SolidSignal.com thrived when the US government announced a program to help people move to digital TV. Despite the coming recession, we stayed strong. When that recession began to fade and people started buying boats and RVs again, we were here to outfit them with the best entertainment. We’ve brought innovative products to market, year after year, that’s true. But we know that it’s the customer service, and our customers, that really make a difference.
We know that without you, we’d be nothing
Without you, there would be no SolidSignal.com. There would be no Signal Connect, either. It goes without saying that there would be no Solid Signal Blog, which is now the largest company-sponsored tech blog in the industry, and shows no signs of stopping.
Our customers have stayed with us for years. You’ve become our friends. Many of the accounts we started working with back in the 2000s are still on the books today. Why? Because we answer the phone, and you know it. And, along the way our family has grown too. We’ve seen our team mature and start families of their own. We’ve also brought on new team members, some of whom were barely out of diapers when we started!
Here’s to the next 20 years
In 20 years, we went from nothing to the top of the heap. We weathered recessions and global challenges. We thrived offering antennas and converter boxes. The HDTV revolution came, and we were here for it. Then, we were here for the 4K revolution. Who knows what will come next? One thing is for sure: you can count on Signal Group to be here for you!
