HBO Max is Rocking it in May/June

Want to stream something new? HBO Max is rocking some original series in late May/early June!

Did you miss me, streamers? I think you did. After two weeks of Stuart Sweet’s venomous rants, I started to miss myself! Well, I’m back in control of this weekly feature and just in time, too. While HBO Max’s stream-same-day-as-in-theaters thing is cool, I’ve done if before. This week, I wanted to look at new original series headed to HBO Max in the coming weeks. As usual, I’ve found three that have captured my interest. I’m happy to share them with you here.

Pause with Sam Jay

Move over, Bill Maher! Comedian and writer Sam Jay is unveiling her revolutionary new talk show concept. Pause with Sam Jay as a post-vaccination party at Jay’s apartment. Here, she entertains guests while discussing topics that are near and dear to her heart. This HBO original series provides a unique take on hearing new thoughts and viewpoints. The first episode debuts at 9 PM on Friday, May 21, 2021.

In Treatment

This isn’t your mother’s In Treatment! That one starred Gabriel Byrne and ran for three seasons. Eleven years later, the critically acclaimed series returns with a new direction. It features Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New Black) as Dr. Brooke Lawrence. With a new therapist comes a new setting, patients, and storylines. Are you ready for your sessions? The all-new In Treatment starts at 9 PM on Sunday, May 23, 2021.

White Lotus

Admittedly, I’m crawling around in the dark a bit on this one. Here’s what I know: this HBO original series focuses on one week in the lives of the staff and guests at a tropical resort. I also know that it stars a few actors and actresses I know. Those are Steve Zahn (Reality Bites), Molly Shannon (Saturday Night Live), and Jon Gries (Napoleon Dynamite). What I don’t know is if White Lotus is a comedy, and if it’s a mini-series. (There is no trailer on YouTube.) What I do know is that it debuts at 9 PM on Sunday, July 11, 2021.

Stream Same Day as in Theaters

Okay. Maybe you don’t share my enthusiasm for streaming original series. Or perhaps you want to enjoy the occasional movie without dropping a small fortune on popcorn. Either way, I won’t leave you hanging. Here’s a quick look at three movies headed to HBO Max on the same day they pop at movie theaters:

  • In the Heights (June 18, 2021): Lin-Manuel Miranda’s musical ode to the Manhattan neighborhood he grew up in.
  • Space Jam: A New Legacy (July 16, 2021): Looney Tunes meets LeBron James down in the paint, basically.
  • The Suicide Squad (August 6, 2021): DC Comics villains join Task Force X to get out of the worst prison in America.

Do any of these titles sound interesting? I’ll bet at least one of them does, and you’re already making plans to watch it. I know I am. HBO Max is my favorite streaming service, after all. And I’m not just saying that because our Signal Connect division is an AT&T Preferred Dealer. I truly love everything HBO Max has to offer!
