Looking for custom 50-ohm cables? Solid Signal is your solution

Sometimes the right cable is hard to find. Trust me, I have boxes and boxes of them and sometimes I still can’t find the one I want. You would think at this point it would be easy for everything to use the same cable. The exact opposite is true.

The more ways we find to connect things, the more types of cables there are. Each serves a specific purpose. A charging cable for your phone should be short, thin, and have a tiny connector on it. A cable that carries enough information for hundreds of phone calls might look completely different, while one that provides enough power for a gaming PC has totally different specs.

And then, let’s not even get into the idea of things like fiber optics. Fiber optics are essentially cables made of glass instead of copper. There are also multiplex cables where one cable assembly hides a dozen different wires. No matter what you can imagine, you’ll find someone has created a custom cable for just that eventuality.

So what can you do when you need a cable you just can’t find? Luckily my friends at Solid Signal are there to take care of everything I need.

Your one-stop solution

Let’s talk specifically about 50-ohm cables. Most of the time when you think about the typical coaxial cable, that’s a 75-ohm cable. Your typical TV, satellite, antenna, or cell phone signal booster uses 75-ohm cable. The measure “75-ohm” describes the impedance of the cable. What’s impedance? It’s a surprisingly confusing mathematical idea. In short, it’s the total “opposition” that a cable or circuit provides to current going through it. I suppose that’s not incredibly important other than, if you use cables with the wrong impedance, things won’t work right.

50-ohm cables are used in industrial applications. Conventional wisdom is that it’s easier to make 50-ohm cables with really low loss so they can go very long distance. With digital amplifiers that’s less of a concern. Still, commercial installs tend to use 50-ohm cables while home installs tend to use 75-ohm ones.

Getting the 50-ohm cables you need.

At Solid Signal, we’ve beefed up our selection of 50-ohm cables, and we have everything from TWS195 to RG58 and everything in between. It doesn’t matter if you want an N connector or reverse polarity SMA, we have you covered.

Different lengths are no problem either, because practically every cable is available in varying lengths. These are high-quality cables from Ventev and other manufacturers, and are built to commercial specifications so you never have to worry about them.

Chances are, you’ll find what you’re looking for, but if you don’t, give us a call at 888-233-7563 and we’ll get something custom built. Our manufacturing partners can do custom cables in very low quantities and we can get just the cable you need sent out to you in record time. Give us a try! We have done a better job of managing supply chain issues than many other web sites. This means we can usually get parts that no one else can.
