Netflix Streaming Scary and Funny in October

If you stream Netflix, October is going to keep you scared… and busy!

Horror is the highlight on Netflix in October and that should come as no surprise. Halloween sets the tone for the tenth month of the year. People probably watch more horror movies during October than they do all the other months combined. (No, I don’t have the data to support that but it sure sounded good.) I do have some numbers, though. This month, Netflix has 12 original series, three returning series, and 19 original movies. Let’s take a close look at my top picks for each category.

The Haunting of Bly Manor (October 9)

I’m not going to say this one guarantees the fright factor but it certainly promises it. Season one of The Haunting of Bly Manor kicks off this month. It’s a horror series from the producers of The Haunting of Hill House. (We all remember how terrifying that series was!) This new series stars Victoria Pedretti, Henry Thomas, and Oliver Jackson-Cohen, among others. Frankly, I thought Hill House set a very high bar. If this even comes close to that, I’ll probably be happy.

If The Haunting of Bly Manor trailer is any indication, this show is a worthy successor:

Cadaver (October 22)

Cadaver is a Netflix original movie with a rather unique premise. It’s set in a world that just experience a nuclear disaster. People are starving and society seems to be shambles. It’s the perfect time to usher in a creepy hotel that puts on a play for all its guests. A starving family decides to stay the night in this rather odd hotel and begin to notice that audience members are vanishing. Are you wondering if this could be the ideal October horror film? Check out the Cadaver trailer:

The Worst Witch (October 1)

If you’re looking for something a little more family-friendly, there’s season four of The Worst Witch. This Netflix original series follows Midred Hubble and her hilarious misadventures at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches. And, if you’re new to this series, you can always catch up with this little thing called “bingewatching.” Are you wondering if The Worst Witch could be fun for the whole family? Perhaps you’ll pick up on its whimsical, Harry Potter-like vibe in the season four trailer:

Something for Every Streamer

I enjoy writing these “what’s-new-on-insert-streaming-service-this-month blog posts. When I do, I’m mindful of one very important fact: my tastes in TV entertainment might not be the same as yours. That’s why I like to list everything that’s coming to the chosen streaming service – in this case Netflix – for the month. You can cruise through the titles and find something that might appeal to you and your household. Happy streaming!
