New Year, New Netflix Streaming Experiences

All that binge-watching Cobra Kai might have made you miss some other gems on Netflix. Let’s take a closer look, streamers.

When I’m streaming, I have a certain pattern. Whether it’s an original movie, series, or documentary, I tend to like shows that are more than a little dark and mysterious. Since it’s the beginning of a new year, I want to try something new. This week, I’d like to focus on Netflix original programming that’s more educational in nature. The streaming service is offering more than a handful of such shows and series this month. Are you someone who thirsts for knowledge and new experiences? If so, let’s take a look at what’s available for streaming.

Headspace Guide to Meditation (January 1)

Have you ever wanted to try meditation but don’t know where to start? Netflix comes to your rescue with this series. The streaming service provider teams up with Headspace, an online healthcare company that specializes in meditation. Together, they bring you this eight-episode series that shows you how to use meditation in your daily life. Every episode ends with a guided meditation.

The Minimalists: Less Is Now (January 1)

What would happen if you removed one material possession from your life each day for a month? This Netflix original documentary seeks to answer that question. Hosts Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus show us how we can improve our lives by letting go of things that no longer serve us. The Minimalists: Less is Now is directed by Matt D’Avella.

The History of Swear Words (January 5)

This is Netflix’s docuseries about the history of all the words we’re not supposed to say but sometimes do. It’s hosted by Nicolas Cage, who’s a natural for such a series. Anyone familiar with his broad range of work has already heard him utter just about every swear word. Well, apparently there are more, and this series explores them all. Given the nature of this Netflix original, we can’t show you the trailer. (We’re not that kind of blog.) If you’re not easily offended, you can easily find it on YouTube.

Streamers, This is Just the Beginning

As you can see, the Netflix originals I focused on are in the first week of January. The streaming service offers more original programming throughout the month. I’ll take a closer look at those shows when each of them is available for streaming. That way, if any sound interesting, you can watch them right away. Instant gratification is what streaming is all about, after all. That’s why you binge-watched the third season of Cobra Kai on January 1. Don’t worry, I did too.
