Satellite TV is reliable in winter storms… cable isn’t

Well friends, we’re deep into it now. Winter is here, and with it come winter storms. Most of the time they’re just a nuisance. But what about the rest of the time? What about when those storms hit hard? Folks, this is 2022… almost 2023. You can’t afford to be disconnected for very long. So how can you get the information you need when power is out in the entire area?

Satellite TV is the answer. Cable, not so much

Satellite television doesn’t need anything more than a dish on the roof in order to work. It’s up to you to make sure the snow is off it, of course. You can use a dish heater to automatically take care of that when there’s power. There are other methods, too. But as long as the dish is clear, you’ll have TV service.

It doesn’t take much to power a small (32″ or less) TV. You can do it with a battery backup or generator, or even a small solar array. Dish and TV, that’s all you need. Now, compare that with cable. Cable TV relies on wires strung throughout your city or town. Sometimes, they’re underground where frost heaves can cut them. Sometimes they’re strung on poles where falling trees can break them. One way or another, there’s plenty of opportunity for problems.

Don’t forget too that those same cables probably carry your family’s internet service. No internet means no streaming. On the other hand, satellite TV will still be there if that line is broken.

It makes sense to diversify your services

I talk a lot about bundling. Bundling is where you combine multiple services on one bill. It’s a great way to save money. But, it’s possible to go too far with bundling. If you have all of your home entertainment coming from the same company, an outage will take you down, hard. TV and internet on the same fiber strand sounds great until that fiber strand gets cut. Sure, the cable company will come out and fix it… eventually. Meantime, if you have satellite TV you’ll still be riding high.

Yeah, I hear what you’re thinking. “What about my bundle discount?” Did you know you can keep that discount and still get satellite TV? There are bundle deals between the satellite companies and the internet companies, too. You can still be saving money even when you diversify a little bit.

Now’s the time

Now’s the time to make a change. You don’t want to get stuck in the middle of a winter storm wishing you had television service. Call the experts at Signal Connect at 888-233-7563. As DIRECTV dealers, we can offer you the best discounts and bundles, without the call center hassle. Call during East Coast business hours, or fill out the form below.

One more thing…

If you really want to be smart, you’ll diversify even further. A TV antenna is the hands down most reliable way to get TV service, and once you put one up there’s nothing else to pay for! Antennas work in rain, snow, and pretty much any weather except hurricane-force winds. If you want to put one up, shop the great selection at Solid Signal or ask your technical specialist when you call.
