Streamers, Buckler is Back from Bermuda!

And I’m here to share my top three Netflix original picks for the month of September.

Admit it, you know you missed me. After reading Stuart Sweet’s rant about Nine Perfect Strangers, you would have to. Granted, he put a lot of time and research into it. (We would expect nothing less.) But sometimes the guy just plain overthinks things. Rather than dedicate so much time – and word count – to one movie, I like to spread things out a bit. As usual, I share the three original movies that I find the most intriguing. I think you will, too.

Nightbooks (September 15)

October is around the corner, so the scary movies come out. Nightbooks features a clever boy held prisoner by a powerful witch. He convinces her that he’ll tell her a scary story every night to keep her from ending him. Meanwhile, he teams up with another young prisoner to stop the witch. Yes, this plot is somewhat reminiscent of Tales from the Darkside: The Movie (1990). But I think there’s enough going on in Nightbooks to set it apart.

Check out the Nightbooks trailer to see if this is something you’d like to stream:

Confessions of an Invisible Girl (September 22)

As I’ve stated in the past, I’m a fan of foreign language films. When I was a kid, I thought it was cool if you were someone who digs movies with subtitles. As an adult, I realize that I enjoy foreign films because it’s interesting to absorb stories from different cultures and viewpoints. Confessions of an Invisible Girl is a Brazilian take on the awkward, fish-out-of-water kid navigating high school challenges film. I’d like to see how that works out.

The Chestnut Man (September 29)

This Netflix original series looks too good not to mention. And it’s another foreign-language film, this time Danish, and it’s a creepy one. What else would you expect from the author of The Killing (Søren Sveistrup)? My prediction: This series will serve up serial killers, scares, and subtitles. I’ve decided to be vague with this one because the trailer is, too. One thing I’m sure of is that this show will be nuts. (Okay. I couldn’t resist that one.)

Here’s a look at the very stylish and dark trailer for The Chestnut Man:

Yeah, Bermuda was Great…

But I’m glad to be back at the control deck for Streaming Saturday. (Sorry, not sorry, Stuart.)
