STREAMING SATURDAY: Netflix Brings Back the Hits in May!

If you’re a diehard Netflix original series streamer, you should be excited about what’s coming to the streaming giant in May.

If you’re a regular reader of this column, you know that I’m a huge fan of more than a few Netflix original series. Because of my love for this Netflix original programming, I’m particularly excited about the streaming giant’s May lineup. One of my favorites is returning for its much-anticipated third season, while Mrs. Buckler’s personal fave is returning as well. If you like either of these series (or both), and/or a handful of other Netflix original series, you’ll be looking forward to May, as well. So let’s take a closer look at the fifth month of the year and what Netflix has to offer us streamers.

Bloodline Returns in May
Since watching a troubled John Rayburn (Kyle Chandler) drive off into the night to conclude season two, I’ve been yearning to see the return of Bloodline. With the words “witness the end” displayed boldly in the trailer, season three will likely be the final installment in the Rayburn family’s troubled tales. I’m not surprised. From the season one voice over from John Rayburn, you get the feeling that the authorities are closing in right from the very start. Given how dysfunctional this fictional family is, I have a hunch that Bloodline’s third season will come to an explosive end. May 26 can’t get here soon enough!

House of Cards in My House
Admittedly, I don’t watch House of Cards. Something about corrupt politicians ruthlessly breaking all the rules to hold on to power just doesn’t ring true for me. Mrs. Buckler loves this show, though, so I’ve seen the first four seasons whether I wanted to our not. If you’re like my wife and you love this show starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright, then you’ll be over the moon to know that its much-anticipated fifth season is set to debut on May 30. I have a feeling that my better half will binge watch each and every episode in one to two days. I can’t really blame her, as it is a very suspenseful and compelling show.

Sense8 Returns for Second Season
I’m not a huge sci-fi freak but I know someone who is. And if this particular grumpy old man bothers to stream shows off Netflix, he probably enjoys watching Sense 8. For him, and anyone else who loves this show, the series returns on May 5. The show focuses upon a group of eight strangers who being “sensates,” which means that they are mentally and emotionally linked. The eight, along with a ninth, are being hunted by another sensate called “Whispers” who leads an organization that tracks down sensates to tap into their psychological link. It sounds like a heady brew of science fiction and social causes, and there’s a good chance that I might get around to streaming it someday.

Editor’s Note:
Buckler, you boob, you ignored one of the best and smartest shows on Netflix today. Here’s a trailer for you to enjoy, I suggest you book some time to binge the first two seasons before May 19.

And Much More to Stream!
Streamers are going to love Netflix in May. In addition to the original series mentioned above, there are other series and Netflix original films scheduled for this month. There’s also a healthy offering of films from the 1980s to 2016. It’s true that the streaming giant won’t have every newest release or a complete catalog of films from decades past. (I discussed why here.) But Netflix continues to have enough content on a month-by-month basis to keep most of its clients happy. So as we head into the fifth month of the year, happy streaming!
