Roku, Sling TV, and YouTube TV are making headlines this week. Two streaming service providers have good news to share while the third is dealing with a widespread outage. Good news and bad news seems to be the nature of streaming world news. Fortunately, it’s usually more good than bad. That’s the case with this installment of streaming service news.
Roku Announces Sanyo & Roku TV Partnership
Roku is adding another brand to its Roku TV lineup with the addition of Sanyo. These Sanyo Roku TVs are expected to bring value, simplicity and entertainment to customers by running the Roku operating system. Customers will have access to Roku’s expansive entertainment library and updates with the latest features.
The addition of Sanyo increases the scope of Roku’s TV licensing program. The company also has partnerships with Philips, Magnavox, and RCA. Sharp, Element, and Insignia also feature Roku on TVs manufacturers. TCL launched a high-end line of Roku TVs. To increase its footprint in Canada, the first Sanyo Roku TVs will be shipped there, according to Roku.
Sling TV is Experiencing a Widespread Outage
On April 3, Sling TV experienced a major outage. Sometime during the night, many Sling TV subscribers experience an 8-393227 error. At 8:33 PM, Sling Answers tweeted that it was aware that some viewers were experiencing these streaming issues. The company reassured its customers that its team was working hard to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
The work last until at least 11:35 AM the next morning. At that point, Sling Answers urged viewers to watch on a Chrome Browser, and provided them with a link. Rumor has it, this was the first big Sling TV crash in a while. As of 12:31 PM, April 4, Sling TV has not reported the cause of this outage. YouTube TV Adds Decades Network & Local Affiliates
YouTube TV recently added the Decades Network and several CBS, Fox, and Telemundo affiliates to its lineup. Decades is a CBS and Weigel Broadcasting-owned OTA network that features programming from the 1950s and later decades. It launched in 2014, and is currently available in 34 states. Decades is best known for airing reruns of I Love Lucy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and other classic TV programs.
