Want to put Starlink on your boat? You’ll want one of these mounts

For the high-end yacht owner, Starlink is turning out to be a must-have accessory. It’s not a replacement for satellite TV, that’s to be sure. But, it’s still something you’ll want to have. It gives you high-speed internet that’s going to be as close to the “at-home” experience as you’re going to get. But then again, I probably don’t have to sell you on Starlink at this point. If you already have Starlink, please skip down a few paragraphs, because I want to quickly cover what makes this system different and why it’s not a replacement for satellite TV.

What is Starlink and why is it so special?

Starlink is the first service in a new generation of satellite-based internet. Traditionally, satellite internet meant launching a satellite into geostationary orbit. Not only was this incredibly expensive, but you had to count on a 10-15 year lifespan in order to make your money back. Think about it. Is your internet different than it was 15 years ago? It probably is, yet if you think about traditional satellite internet, that’s all it can supply.

Starlink uses thousands of small satellites rather than one large one. I don’t want to use the term “disposable,” but it’s not that far off base. These satellites sit at a much lower orbit than traditional satellites. This means you get faster speeds because your data doesn’t have to make a 44,000 mile round trip. It also means they fall out of the sky faster but then again they can be made less expensively. All told, Starlink systems can evolve a lot faster which is what people want out of internet service.

Why isn’t Starlink a replacement for satellite TV?

Starlink for Marine gives you a home-like experience, but I’ll be honest. The cost isn’t very home-like. The equipment is more expensive. That’s no surprise I’m sure, since it seems like everything for marine is more expensive. More importantly, Starlink’s marine plans have data caps. There are different plans at different price levels, but in the end, you have the potential to run out of data. Depending on the service level you choose, that could mean using up a month’s worth of data with one night of 4K streaming.

That’s why it’s still a great idea to have a satellite TV system for your live TV needs. Satellite TV comes to you at one fixed price per month that includes unlimited viewing. Plus, it doesn’t matter how many TVs are watching satellite at once. There’s never any decrease in quality or buffering. That’s why satellite TV is still the best way to watch TV on the water.

OK, on to the subject of the article

If you’re mounting your Starlink system at home, it’s pretty easy. You can use the included mounting options or just attach the antenna to any surface in any way you want. On the other hand, you don’t want your yacht to look improvised. You want a smooth, professional install where everything matches.

That’s why you’re going to want to choose Seaview mounts for Starlink. They’re designed to look great on your yacht and fit in perfectly. They come in a variety of heights and every one of them will work with today’s Starlink marine hardware perfectly.

Seaview has been making marine accessories for decades. You might be familiar with them. If you’re not, just know that they made their reputation by providing quality marine hardware that holds up to the elements and looks great year after year.

Choose the Seaview mount that makes sense for your boat. You’ll want the one that’s tall enough to clear all your other equipment. Remember that Starlink will need a view of the sky in all directions. Your boat is constantly on the move and your Starlink system will need to see as much sky as possible to get the best results.

Seaview mounts are easily installed by the same people who currently maintain your boat. If you don’t have a marine A/V installer, we can help you find one!
