Can you get regional sports networks when you travel?

DIRECTV knocks it out of the part when it comes to regional sports networks. There are very few they don’t carry. So, if you’re a fan, you can follow your team. But what if you’re on the road, for example in an RV? Do those networks come in if you’re out of the area?

The simple answer is “yes.”

DIRECTV carries regional sports networks on its national satellites. The high definition versions are on satellites at either the 99 or 103 satellite locations. The standard definition versions (for as long as they’re available) are at the 101 location. If you’re in an RV, you probably have a single-satellite dish, so those standard def ones are your best choice.

So yes, no matter where you go you should get those networks. If you are out of the area with your DIRECTV box, you should still be able to get those regional sports networks just like you were at home.

So, why?

The answer is simple. DIRECTV offers packages that include those networks. For example, the DIRECTV Sports Pack includes virtually every regional sports network across the country.

There’s a hitch, though, and you’ve probably noticed it with your own RSN. If the game is subject to blackout rules, you may not be able to get it on an RSN at all. Or, if you have the sports pack, you may only be able to get it with an out-of-area RSN.

This means, ironically, that displaced fans with the sports pack may be able to get games that in-market fans can’t get on TV. What can I say? I personally think blackout rules are stupid and I wish they would go away. But, no one is asking my opinion on that so they aren’t likely to go anywhere.
