Which power cord do I need for my DIRECTV box?

TOPICS:

Hey, things happen. Sometimes you lose a cord, sometimes you accidentally run over it with a vacuum cleaner. I’m not here to judge. I’m here to tell you how to get the best replacement power cord for your DIRECTV hardware. Essentially it comes down to one of the following choices.

Genie 2 Server

If you started with DIRECTV in the last couple of years, you probably have the Genie 2 Server somewhere in your home. It’s easy to distinguish with its tall triangle tower look. This device uses its own power adapter, called the EPS17. It’s not available for sale directly, but we can help you source one if you call us. Call 888-233-7563 and we’ll help you get one. You’ll need a separate power cord for the client boxes, but I’ll get to that below.

Older Genie DVRs

If you have this style of Genie DVR, it may or may not have a touch panel on the front. There have been several generations of this style and one, the HR54, is still being made today.

All Genie DVRs that look like this one use the same power adapter, called the EPS44. It’s available here. This same power adapter is also used for the H44 Commercial receiver.

H25 receivers and all Genie Clients

If you have a Genie client box, no matter which one, it uses the EPS10 power adapter. The same power adapter is also used for H25 receivers and some DECA units. It’s available here. This is DIRECTV’s most common power cord and it’s used on a lot of items. There have been several generations and they all look slightly different. If it fits in the back of your DIRECTV box, it will work.

Older receivers and DVRs

Most DIRECTV receivers from the HR21 to the H24 will use the same power cord. These models have an internal power supply so the cord itself is just a cord. There’s no “wall wart” component to it. The cord itself is called a “polarized C7.” We do occasionally have them in stock at Solid Signal but they are also available for very low prices all over the internet. One polarized C7 is as good as another, so buy one from wherever you choose. The “polarized” part refers to the fact that one side is flat while the other side is rounded. Some C7 cords have two rounded sides, and will not fit in a DIRECTV box.

Most other DIRECTV hardware

Most other DIRECTV hardware, like your dish, multiswitch, and most satellite amplifiers, will use the PI-29 power adapter. You can get one here. Again, there have been several generations so the one you get might not match the one you’re replacing.
