DIRECTV’s HD receivers use a technology called SHEF that lets you control them from your home network. It’s what makes DIRECTV’s apps work, but did you know that you can use the same functions yourself?

If you have a home automation system, a lot of these controls are already baked in. But, if you want to do your own programming, you’ll find that it’s very easy to send commands to your receiver or DVR using simple web pages.
