How can you connect your phone to your RV’s TV?

Here’s the challenge: You want to stream the latest from the comfort of your RV’s beds. You have a TV in the RV, either one that came with it or a more modern flat screen. But streaming’s a challenge, because it takes internet access. You have that on your phone, but there are some problems.

A lot of people have trouble with reception once they get back to the far reaches of the RV. Blame the vehicle’s sturdy construction for blocking a lot of those signals. But let’s say you can get enough signal on your phone to stream. That’s great for you, but what about the rest of the people in the RV? Can you all watch something together, or are you all stuck staring at your own phones? Does that really seem like the way you wanted a family trip to shake out?

There is a solution

You can turn streaming into a family activity if you think ahead. It takes three things. One you may already have, and the other two you’ll have to buy. You’ll put out a little bit of money, but when you look at this as a long-term investment in your family it’s not that much. In fact, it’s far less than you’ll pay for even one cell phone, and it will last for years.

Step 1: Cell phone signal booster

First thing is, you’ll want a strong signal in the RV. Choose weBoost’s Drive Reach RV to get the maximum boost allowable by law. This device brings cell signal inside and pumps it out through a tiny indoor antenna that you place where you want. It’s an easy DIY install and starts working immediately. It supports 4G/LTE and nationwide 5G with all carriers.

Step 2: GOTSPOT

You’ve heard of hotspots before. This is more than a hotspot – it’s a GOTSPOT. And you can get it from Solid Signal. This is the all-in-one, easy to use device that turns cell signal into Wi-Fi. It’s available with generous data plans so you can stream all you want.

Traditional hotspots have a very small range and are super-slow. The GOTSPOT has a much bigger range, big enough to cover the back of the RV. Everyone can use it at the same time, and you don’t have to slow down your phone with “Personal Hotspot Mode.”

Step 3 (optional) streaming box for the TV

Your TV may have smart features built in. If it does, you can probably connect it to the GOTSPOT’s Wi-Fi and cast straight to it. You might even be able to use its built-in apps. If you’re working with an older TV, you’ll want to add a streaming box. You might also want an HDMI-to-composite adapter like this one which will let you connect any of today’s devices to yesterday’s TVs.

If you have an Android, you might look at a Chromecast device. They’re not that expensive, have built-in apps, and make casting easy. However, iPhone users should look for deals on the AppleTV HD (formerly known as the 4th generation AppleTV.) This device just went off the market as Apple has rolled out a new generation of its 4K box. It’s a stable, dependable, and fast product that connects easily to the iPhone and gives plenty of apps. You can find then used and even find new stock on some sites.
