Is your business ready for the fall?

Here’s a funny thing, friends. More people live in the southern part of the country than ever before. Not only that, there’s more stuff available to do year round, more places to go, than ever before. Yet, there’s something about our culture that causes us to take trips in the summer and get back to business in the fall. It’s not just kids being out of school. Unless you sell ice cream or operate an amusement park, you probably see a drop in income in the summer, followed by a bounce back in September.

Well, it’s almost September again and it’s time to ask yourself if you’re ready. There are a lot of things you’ll need to do. You’ll need to increase staffing, stock up on inventory, all of that. But, hey. You’ve arrived at The Solid Signal Blog. We’re here to tell you about one thing you may have forgotten.

Live TV keeps customers in their seats

Whether you have a bar or restaurant, a service operation with a waiting room, a medical office, or anything where you want customers to be happy while they wait, you’re going to want live TV. It’s been proven over and over that customers who have live TV to watch will be happier and they’ll stay in your establishment longer. This means more opportunities to sell them stuff, whether it’s food or new rims for their car or teeth-whitening services. You can’t sell something to a customer you can’t reach, and there’s no easier way to reach a customer than having them in your place of business.

Think about it. It’s so hard to get people to even leave the house and give up online shopping and streaming. You take every chance to get them to come to see you. Why not do something that will keep them happy?

The little secret of streaming TV in business

We’ve all been somewhere with a TV tuned to Netflix, Disney+, or some other streaming source. I was just in a doctor’s office yesterday where they were streaming in the waiting room. But here’s the little secret: You can’t do that. I mean it’s obviously possible, but it’s not technically legal.

Most streaming services are designed only for residences. If they offered streaming to your business, they’d need a completely different model for paying residuals to copyright holders. Most of them don’t want to do it. If you’re using a streaming app at work, you’re breaking the terms of that agreement you didn’t read before you clicked “ok.”

You know how most sports programming has some sort of disclaimer that says “Licensed for private use. Public Performances are not allowed” or something like that? It’s the same with all streaming programs, whether that disclaimer is on screen or not.

One more thing to consider: If you stream content, you’re giving your exact location to the streaming company. I mean, they can sometimes identify which part of the room you’re streaming from, it’s that precise. So you’ve given them everything they need to find you. And eventually, they will. I’ve seen it over and over again. It may seem like a harmless thing, like running a stop sign at 3 in the morning. But like that stop sign scenario, it can have tragic circumstances. Your business won’t thrive if you’re paying 4-figure settlements to a streaming company. And let’s be honest, it does absolutely happen.

Don’t even try to stream football

By now, you’ve probably heard that NFL Sunday Ticket has moved to YouTube this year. Except, no one talks about what that means. To be very clear, NFL Sunday Ticket is available through YouTube for homes and other private areas. If you have a business, you absolutely are not allowed to stream NFL Sunday Ticket. Period. If you have a business, NFL Sunday Ticket is available exclusively through DIRECTV just as it always was.

If football is a big part of your strategy for keeping customer happy this fall, you’ll want to make sure your DIRECTV system is ready to go. There’s a new DIRECTV box specifically designed for commercial customers for the first time in a decade, and it’s available from Solid Signal. If you’ve been putting off upgrades, now is the time.

There’s still time left to order NFL Sunday Ticket from DIRECTV. But, you can’t just go to DIRECTV.com and turn it back on. You’ll need a commercial dealer, and who better than DIRECTV’s Commercial Dealer of the Year? Let the experts at Signal Connect take care of everything and you’ll be ready to keep people in their seats all autumn.
