Missing channels in Music Choice on DIRECTV? Here’s why

Who doesn’t love Music Choice? It’s a part of every DIRECTV subscription, giving you music and even trivia, all for free. If your receiver is connected to the internet, you can even get streaming content. But what happens when Music Choice doesn’t work right? Here’s the most common reason that you’ll run into problems.

The channels you should get

You can browse the guide, or press the right arrow on your internet-connected receiver to go to the Music Choice app. Here are the channels that you should be getting:

Here’s what’s actually happening

Chances are this is happening because you have an old-style round dish, a mobile dish, or a marine dish. Almost all of the Music Choice channels are carried at DIRECTV’s 101 location, but the ones above are carried at the 103 location. You’ll need a receiver and satellite system that can pull in signals from there. Home users pretty much all use the Slimline dish, but if you don’t, that’s the issue.

What can you do?

It seems like a bit of a stretch to put a lot of money into dish upgrades just to get this small number of channels. But, if you’re upgrading to HD or 4K anyway, you’ll get these channels as well. If you have internet access, you can go to musicchoice.com and log in with your DIRECTV credentials. This will let you stream the channels you’re missing.
