NICE AND EASY: Can you get white cable for your marine and mobile install?

RVers and Marine enthusiasts have a lot of pride. Of course they do! The choice of travel, especially luxury travel, says a lot about you. So why shouldn’t you have everything perfect? The answer is: you should, and we’re here to help.

Satellite installations

Most satellite installations already use white cable. If yours was one of the older ones that didn’t, you can install white cable instead. However, you’ll need to choose that cable carefully. Not all coaxial cables are the same, and the ones you get at the local home store usually won’t work for satellite. If you’re choosing a new cable for your satellite install, it must have three things:

  • Compression connector on each end (metal, not molded plastic)
  • Solid Copper center conductor
  • Rating up to 3GHz

Generally home store cable doesn’t meet up to those standards. Luckily there’s a place you can get what you need. Solid Signal’s white RG6 cable meets all those requirements perfectly. Were you surprised? We do more marine and RV satellite activations than anyone else in the world!

Cell booster installations

Unfortunately when it comes to cell phone signal boosters, the story is a little different Cell booster cables aren’t compatible with the RG6 standard. They’re considered… a little more special purpose. As I write this, there isn’t anyone who is making them in white.

Also, just because I see the question coming, you really shouldn’t paint those cables. First of all it never looks as good as you’d think. Also, the chemicals in the paint can eat through the rubber sheath on the cable.

If you must have white cable, consult with a local shop that does auto wraps or vinyl signage. They can probably wrap the cable in vinyl in a way that looks perfectly natural. I can’t think of a reason why that would cause any problems with the cable, either.
