Folks, this may be one short article. But I do want Google to pay attention to it so there’s a good possibility that I’ll pad it out a little bit. The extra storytelling will look good to Google’s bots and hey, you might just learn something.
The DIRECTV for Business app
If you have more than one DIRECTV box and you have a tablet, you’re going to want to get this free app. You can get it on the Apple App store and the Google Play store. It works whether you have residential service or commercial service. If you can log into your account at DIRECTV.com, it will work for you. (Note: commercial customers need to set up access on DIRECTV.com. It’s a little different getting it done. Call us at 888-233-7563 and we’ll explain.)
Here’s why you’ll want it:
This free app lets you change the channel on any receiver on your network. It lets you create groups so you can change the channel on multiple receivers at the same time. It has a full guide and remote control built in. It’s essentially a matrix switch in an app and did I mention it’s free? How can you go wrong?
The only thing you need to do…
In order to make all this work you will need to network your receivers. Home users generally do this anyway. If you don’t, your receivers tend to nag you until you give in. However, not every commercial install has networked receivers. A lot of companies just never saw any reason to do it. Now, there’s a reason to do it.
If you have an H24 or H25 receiver (or something even older,) you can simply connect one DECA to your coax line and to your router. If you have an H26K, the latest and greatest, you have the option of putting a DECA at every receiver or connecting every receiver straight to the network infrastructure over Ethernet.
Making the H26K use Ethernet instead of coax for its networking eliminates certain problems and it’s what commercial customers said they wanted. If you want to know more, there’s a whole article with installation diagrams here.
So to be clear…
YES you can use the DIRECTV for Business app with the H26K. Like any other DIRECTV box, it needs to be connected to your business’s network, and the tablet you’re running the app on needs to be connected to the same network.
