Traveling during the summer? Bring your own remote!!

This might finally be the summer we’ve all been waiting for. Yes, there’s still a pandemic on. But, with good treatments, available vaccines, and a better understanding of what’s out there most of us can rest easier. We can finally get back to some summertime travel.

Yet, the last couple of years have taught us how serious germs can be, and what they can do. No one wants to go through that again. So, a little bit of common sense can go a long way.

The most disgusting thing in any hotel room

Don’t just trust me. Look out there on the internet and you will find that there are two things you should never touch in a hotel room. The first is the glassware, because it’s usually wiped down with the same chemicals used to clean the shower. The second is the remote. Hotel remotes are generally the dirtiest thing in any room. They’re never wiped down, they get handled by lots of people, and let’s be honest here. We don’t know what other people are doing with them. (Ewwww.)

Some remotes do have an anti-microbial coating on them, and that’s going to help. But those coatings also wear off and you have no idea if it’s even still working. That’s why I’ve gone to the trouble of bringing my own remote to hotel rooms.

Seriously?

Yes, seriously. I bring one of these remotes with me wherever I go. Why this particular remote? Because you will not find a more well-built or more programmable remote at the price point. These remotes will control practically any model of TV even most hotel room TVs. They’re not that hard to program and they are built to last. They certainly won’t break the bank even if you pay for expedited shipping.

When you use your own remote, you can feel a lot more comfortable handling it. Just program it for the model of TV you find in the room and you’ll be set. If the model of TV you see isn’t on the list, try one of the Sharp or Insignia models. Believe it or not those codes work for a lot of TVs.

Get the guide for this remote

The online guide for this remote is available from Solid Signal for free. Download or view it here. Ignore the first eight pages, they’re specific to DIRECTV boxes. Slide the top slider all the way to TV and use the supplied code guide to program the remote any way you want.

Simply press and hold MUTE and SELECT for about three seconds and then type in the five letter code corresponding to the model of TV you see. Most models have more than one code so even if the first one doesn’t work, the next one might.

You can’t live your best digital life if…

…you’re laid up with some nasty bug. Be careful out there, use your own remote, and when you get home, shop at Solid Signal for the stuff you need! If you need help, call us at 888-233-7563 during East Coast business hours. We’re here for you.
